WHEN OFFICERS ARRIVED AT THE SCENE, THE VICTIM OF THE SHOOTING HAD ALREADY BEEN TRANSPORTED BY PERSONAL VEHICLE TO THE MIDLAND MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. WHILE MPD WAS INVESTIGATING THE SHOOTING AT STAYBRIDGE, A SECOND VICTIM FROM AN EARLIER RELATED DISTURBANCE, IN THE 1600 BLOCK OF DELMAR ARRIVED AT MIDLAND MEMORIAL HOSPITAL WITH A GUN-SHOT WOUND, BUT NOT LIFE-THREATENING. (“I” FRESHMAN STUDENT-PERMIAN HIGH SCHOOL) RUMOR QUICKLY SPREAD THAT A GUN FELL OUT OF THE POCKET OF ONE OF THE STUDENTS INVOLVED IN A FIGHT THAT STARTED BETWEEN ‘M HALL’ AND ‘G HALL’ OF THE SCHOOL AND THAT SHOTS WERE FIRED CAUSING CHAOS AND A STAMPEDE TOWARDS THE EXITS. ODESSA, TEXAS/OCTOBER 9, 2019-ECTOR COUNTY ISD POLICE ARRESTED A 9TH GRADE STUDENT. WEDNESDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 9TH AT PERMIAN HIGH SCHOOL FOR HAVING A HANDGUN IN HIS BACK PACK. A CRIME STOPPERS TIP LED TO THE DISCOVERY AND THE ARREST. THE STUDENT IS CHARGED WITH ”PLACES WEAPONS PROHIBITED, A THIRD -DEGREE FELONY. ALSO A TEACHER AT EDWARD K. DOWNING ELEMENTARY HEARD WHAT SHE BELIEVED TO BE GUNSHOTS IN THE VICINITY OF THE SCHOO, THE STAFF RESPONDED IMMEDIATELY BY MOVING ALL OF THE STUDENTS THAT WERE OUTSIDE AT RECESS INSIDE AND PLACING THE SCHOOL IN LOCKOUT. THE ECTOR COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND THE ECISD POLICE RESPONDED, BUT DID NOT FIND ANYONE OR ANYTHING IN THE AREA. EARLY THIS MORNING, OCTOBER 9TH, THE ODESSA POLICE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO A DISTURBANCE AT PEPPER TREE APARTMENTS. THE SUSPECT LEFT THE SCENE BEFORE OFFICER COULD MAKE CONTACT WITH HIM.
