Odessa, Texas/January 18, 2022-The Black Cultural Council of Odessa hosted the Freedom Parade to celebrate and remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The parade route moved north from I-20 down south Dixie Blvd. To east Murphy to Woodson Park.

The parade featured decorated vehicles, athletes from Permian High School, a diverse group of residents walked the parade route, as-well-as local politicians, who are currently running for various seats in county and city political races.

The Odessa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. held a special  candle light vigil at the Woodson Center. The ceremony event featured a special performance based on a speech by Dr. King, and other performances.

Shelia Stevenson, President of the Odessa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., has concerns regarding the new Texas Voting Law-which for some, the new law is voter suppression.

Several students at U.T. Permian Basin celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther KIng, Jr., by creating poster that would be posted at the Student Activity Center.

DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(011422)-COURTNEY CHELLE RICE, GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER

On Friday, January 14, 2022, an Ector County jury found COURTNEY CHELLE RICE, GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER. She was sentenced to twenty (20) years in prison. The attorneys for the State of Texas were Elizabeth Howard and Kortney Williams. The presiding judge was Honorable Denn Whalen, in the 70th District Court.
On April 2, 2019, Ms. Rice, 35, shot Jose Hernandez while he slept. Ms. Rice was indicted on August 19, 2019 for First Degree Murder. Ms. Rice was represented by Attorney Michael McLeaish.

DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(011322)-ODESSA CITY COUNCIL VOTES 4 TO 3 TO REMOVE JEFF RUSSELL FROM ODC BOARD

Odessa, Texas/January 13, 2022-On Tuesday, January 11th the Odessa City Council during its regularly scheduled meeting addressed item 7 to consider the removeal of Jeff Russell from the ODC Board. The Odessa City Council heared from supporters of Jeff Russell, their opposition to the city council’s decision to vote for or against the removal.

Odessa City Councilman, District 2-Steve Thompson read from a transcript of an ODC meeting where Jeff Russell advised the ODC board that he may have a conflict of interest regarding a construction company that may or may not be associated with RHOADS USA.

The Odessa City Council voted 4 to 3 to remove Jeff Russell from the ODC Board.

DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(011122)MURDER WARRANT SERVED IN CONNECTION TO THE MURDER OF IVAN JOSE ORTIZ-CASTILLO

Midland, Texas/January 11, 2022-A murder warrant has been served by the Midland County Sheriff’s Office for the murder that occurred on December 27, 2021, resulting in the death of Ivan Jose Ortiz-Castillo. 

Nereida Viscarra-Garcia, 23 years-of-age, was served a murder warrant by Midland County Sheriff’s Office for her involvement in the death of Ivan Jose Ortiz-Castillo. 

Nereida Viscarra-Garcia has also been charged with Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence. 

The investigation is still ongoing.

DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(011022)-TXDPS INVESTATING FATAL CRASH 5 MILES EAST OF MIDLAND

Midland, Texas/January 10, 2022-On Saturday, January 8th, 2022 at approximately 5:01p.m. a fatal crash occurred at South County Road 1140, 5 miles east of Midland involving a 2017 Toyota Corolla. 

The TxDPS Highway Patrol Preliminary information revealed that the Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on CR 1140.  The driver identified as Louise Renee Pyle a 54 years-of-age female of Midland failed to stop at a stop sign, and the vehicle crossed over CR 120 and then struck a fence. 

Pyle was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice Court Investigator Carlos Castanos
