DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(013121A)CATALYTIC CONVERTERS THEFT INVESTIGATION

Odessa/Midland, Texas/January 31, 2021-Local law enforcement have recently teamed together and conducted search warrants on several businesses and residences in Ector and Midland Counties. This operation is a result of weeks of investigation into thefts of catalytic converters. There have been five arrests of people committing the thefts and those engaged in selling the stolen converters. More arrests are expected in the coming days and weeks. The Odessa Police Department, Ector County Sheriff’s Office, Midland Police Department, and Midland County Sheriff’s Office have seized several stolen vehicles and a large quantity of catalytic converters. The investigation is ongoing and each agency has identified numerous other people involved.

 Each catalytic converter stolen can cost a person thousands of dollars in repair bills and this problem has affected too many people in our community. Those involved in the actual theft or any form of transactions involving stolen property will be prosecuted. This includes people who buy stolen catalytic converters for profit. The public is encouraged to submit tips to any local agency website, Crime Stoppers, or the Odessa Police Department’s new app if they have any information into other suspects involved. 

 Julian Encinas, 28 years of age/DOB 11-14-92, Jacob Leasure, 40 years of age/DOB 6-2-80, Jason Lemoine, 38 years of age/DOB 11-12-82, Juan Astorga, 44 years of age DOB 6-27-76, and Robert Munoz, 58 years of age/DOB 5-18-62, have all been arrested in connection to the catalytic converter investigation. Andres Astorga, 19 years of age DOB 2-6-01, is still wanted at this time. Anyone with information in reference to his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Odessa Police Department or Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS. DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(013121)-MPD INVESTIGATING FATAL SHOOTING AT EL MITOTE SPORTS LOUNGE

Midland, Texas/January 31, 2021-On Saturday, January 30, 2021 at approximately 2:05 a.m., Midland Police Department Officers responded to El Mitote Sports Lounge in the 1500 block of Rankin Hwy in reference to shots fired.

Upon arrival, Officers discovered that a verbal altercation occurred outside the bar at closing time between multiple subjects. The altercation then turned physical among those involved resulting in shots fired. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Juan M. Anguiano, was struck by a round and transported to Midland Memorial Hospital. Anguiano later died due to his injuries; next of kin has been notified.

Midland Police Department Crimes Against Persons Detectives and the Crime Scene Unit were notified and responded to the scene. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that multiple suspects involved in the shooting fled the scene prior to MPD Officers arrival.

DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(012921B)-OPD. INVESTIGATING DK ROBBERY IN SOUTHEAST ODESSA

Odessa, Texas/January 29, 2021-On January 23rd, 2021 at approximately 5:04 am, Odessa Police responded to the DK convenience store located at 600 South Grandview in reference to an aggravated robbery. Investigation revealed that an unknown male subject fired two rounds into the floor and demanded all of the cash from the register. The suspect then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. Anyone who recognizes the suspect shown in the Surveillance Video or anyone who has information in reference to this incident, contact Detective K. Thompson at 432-335-4609.

THE MISD SCHOOL DISTRICT AQUIRED MORE THAN 12 THOUSAND LEARNING DEVICES THAT WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO OTHER CAMPUSES WITHIN THE DISTRICT. STUDENTS IN GRADES 2ND THROUGH 12TH WILL GET A LITTLE OVER 8 THOUSAND CHROM BOOKS AND STUDENTS IN PRE-K THROUGH FIRST GRADE WILL HAVE AVAILABLE 4,356 IPADS.
