MIDLAND COUNTY EXTENDING BAN ON OUTDOOR BURNING

Today, June 27, 2022, the Midland County Commissioner’s Court
extended an Outdoor Burning Ban for Midland County. As of
today, all outdoor burning in Midland County is PROHIBITED. This
Outdoor Burning Ban will be in place for the next ninety (90) days.
It is set to expire on September 24, 2022.
The unincorporated areas of Midland County have been
determined to be under drought conditions by the Texas Forest
Service. These conditions have prompted the Midland County Fire
Marshal to request the Ban on Outdoor Burning in an effort to
protect lives and properties of the residents in Midland County.
A violation of the Court Order Prohibiting Outdoor Burning is a
class C Misdemeanor and punishable of a fine up to $500.00.
We urge all residents of Midland County to help us during this
time. For our residents in the rural areas, we suggest that you
make sure that you keep an area of approximately 30 feet mowed
around your home and outbuildings to prevent a fire from
reaching your structures.

OPD CRASE Program

In light of what happened in Uvalde, some are wondering about programs available at the Odessa Police Department.  This one has been around for about five years.

The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events program, also known as CRASE, is conducted by the Odessa Police Department to groups, businesses and churches seeking more knowledge about how to prepare for an active shooter situation. It also provides an assessment of where they stand in terms of preparation and what steps they could do to improve their safety.

A group of officers has been trained and certified by the American Crime Prevention Institute to conduct the training and assessments.  The program is FREE.  It was created soon after the Sutherland Springs church shooting back in 2017. The team gets annual refresher courses in the training and assessment, as mass shootings are always different and ther

Texans for Greg Abbott Announces Significant Broadcast And Cable Media Buy For November Election

AUSTIN – Today, Texans for Greg Abbott announced the first purchase of broadcast and cable media time ahead of November’s general election. The $8.8 million purchase allows Governor Abbott's campaign to have the most impactful and cost-efficient ad placement across broadcast TV, cable, radio and connected TV platforms in Texas media markets. This significant investment in ad time will allow Texans for Greg Abbott to secure prime ad slots in live sports programming and local news before they sell out.

“As I have crisscrossed the Lone Star State, I have seen the momentum building for a pro-freedom tidal wave this fall. This media buy will allow us to reach every corner of the state and speak directly to voters about the issues that matter most to them,” said Governor Abbott. “Texans want to ensure that we continue to have a growing economy, improving schools, and a secure border. We'll use these ad buys to remind everyone across the Lone Star State that Texas is still the best place to live, work and raise a family.”

This is the first phase of media buys by Texans for Greg Abbott, and is in addition to the $2.75 million already planned for Hispanic media buys.

Pfluger: Ending Remain in Mexico will be catastrophic

WASHINGTON, DC – Thursday, Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) released a statement on the Biden Administration’s intention to end the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” border protection policy:

Rep. August Pfluger (TX-11): “Without Remain in Mexico it’s Remain in the US. President Biden’s policies have created an environment of weakness along our southern border that emboldens drug cartels, human traffickers, suspected terrorists, and criminals to break our laws and put American and migrant lives in danger. Under the Biden Administration, over 3 million migrants and 50 suspected terrorists have crossed our southern border illegally, and heartbreaking human smuggling casualty events have become all too common. We should be empowering our border patrol agents, not removing the few tools they have.”

Student arrested for possession of a weapon

This morning, ECISD and the Odessa Police Department received a tip that a student attending summer
school at Bonham Middle School could be in possession of a gun. ECISD police and school leaders responded
immediately, and found the student, a 13-year old male, in possession of a gun. Police believe he brought the
weapon to school to show other students; there is no indication he intended to harm anyone. He is now
charged with Places Weapons Prohibited, a Third-degree Felony, and will also face disciplinary action from
the school district.
ECISD would like to thank those who came forward with the information. “If you see something, say
something” is more than just a slogan; it is an imperative for all of us to follow in order to help keep our
community safe. We also want to thank the officers and campus leaders who moved quickly to find the
student and take him into custody. ECISD, together with other local law enforcement agencies, has very
specific protocols in place for responding to this type of incident and we are grateful for the cooperation
between these agencies.
