DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS 022118 OPD ACADEMY 16 DIRECTING TRAFFIC

ODESSA, TEXAS/FEBRUARY 21, 2018 – TODAY, FEBRUARY 20TH THE RECRUITS OF THE ODESSA POLICE ACADEMY 16 WERE GOING OVER TRAFFIC LAW AND DIRECTING TRAFFIC. THE TRAINING TOOK PART THIS AFTERNOON AT 1:30PM AT THE INTERSECTION OF GRANT AND 3RD STREET. CORPORAL MIKE HAMILTON SAYS THAT DIRECTING TRAFFIC IS VERY DIFFICULT AND OFFICERS SOMETINES HAVE TO DEAL WITH MOTORIST WHO DON’T WANT TO DO WHAT THE OFFICER NEEDS THEM TO DO.

(CORPORAL MIKE HAMILTON, COMMUNITY RELATIONS, ODESSA POLICE DEPARTMENT)

“IT IS ACTUALLY AGAINST THE TEXAS TRANSPORTATION CODE FOR YOU TO DISREGARD THAT POLICE OFFICER IN THE STREET. POLICE OFFICER IS OUT THERE IN A BIG YELLOW VEST OR HIS UNIFORM, YOU KNOW THAT HE’S THERE. HE’S NOTIFYING YOU, SAYING, ‘HEY YOU CAN’T GO THIS WAY’, IT’S THE SAME AS THAT GREEN OR RED LIGHT, THAT’S ABOVE THE INTERSECTION.”

THE RECRUITS LEARN TO ALWAYS KEEP THEIR SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHER MOTORIST IN MIND, WHILE DIRECTING TRAFFIC.
