DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS – ( ECTOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER’S MEETING 010818) – CHRIS CLARK, NEW JUDGE, ECTOR COUNTY COURT AT LAW, NUMBER 2

ODESSA, TEXAS/JANUARY 8, 2017 – TODAY THE ECTOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER’S COURT VOTED 4 TO 1 TO ACCEPT THE RESIGNATATION OF CHRISTOPHER CLARK, JUSTICE OF THE PEACE PRICINCT 2.

(CHRISTOPHER CLARK, JP., PCT 2/NEWLY APPOINTED JUDGE FOR COUNTY COURT AT LAW NUMBER 2)

“I HAD PUT ON THE AGENDA TO A RESIGN EFFECTIVE JANUARY 15TH, FROM MY CURRENT POSITION, JUSTICE OF THE PEACE PRECINCT 2, AND I WAS ON THE AGENDA TO BE APPOINTED TO THE COUNTY COURT AT LAW NUMBER 2. I HAD GOTTEN A RESIGNATION LETTER READY, AND THIS WEEKEND I DID SOME RESEARCH, AND DETERMINED THAT I ACTUALLY DID’NT NEED A RESIGNATION LETTER, BECAUSE IN THE TEXAS ELECTION CODE; IF YOU HAVE AN OFFICE, AND YOU THEN GET APPOINTED TO A NEW OFFICE, AND YOU CAN’T HOLD THOSE TWO OFFICES TOGETHER, THEN IMMEDIATLEY UPON TAKING THE NEW OFFICE, YOU VACATE THE CURRENT OFFICE.”

ARMANDO RODRGUEZ VOTED AGAINST ITEM 9 ON THE AGENDA TO ACCEPT THE RESIGNATION OF THE CURRENT JUSTICE OF THE PEACE PCT. 2, BECAUSE COMMISSIONER RODRIGUEZ SAID IT WOULD INCREASE THE CASE LOAD FOR OTHER JP’S.

(ARMANDO RODRIGUEZ, ECTOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER, PCT 4)

“WE CANNOT FORCE THE OTHER PRICINCTS-PRECINCT 1, PRECINCT 3, PRECINCT 4 TAKE OVER AND LISTEN TO THOSE CASES, IN MY OPINION, I THINK THE COUNTY JUDGE, BOBO OR A VISTING JUDGE COULD COME AND LISTINE TO THOSE CASES.”

CHRISTOPHER CLARK, JP PCT. 2 SEE THIS AS A MUCH – DESIRED CAREER MOVE.

(CHRISTOPHER CLARK, JP., PCT 2/NEWLY APPOINTED JUDGE FOR COUNTY COURT AT LAW NUMBER 2)

“WHEN I TOOK THE JUSTICE COURT BENCH IN 2009 I DID SO WITH A VIEW TO MOVING UP EVENTUALLY. AND SO, IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING FOR ME, AT THE SAME TIME, 9 YEARS IN ONE SPOT, I’VE GROWN ACCUSTOM TO THAT SPOT, TO THE PEOPLE I WORK WITH, TO THE CASES I HANDLE.”

COMMISSIONER RODRIGUEZ SAID THAT IT WOULD BE IN BEST INTEREST OF THE CONSTITUENTS OF PRECINCT 2, IF CHRIS CLARK, JUSTICE OF THE PEACE PCT 2, WOULD FINISH OUT HIS TERM.

(ARMANDO RODRIGUEZ, ECTOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER, PCT 4)

“I WISH THEY ALL THE PEOPLE WOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AS ELECTED OFFICIALS TO FINISH THEIR TERMS AND…THAT’S WHAT THEY RAN FOR, AND EVERYTHING ELSE. THEY SHOULD BE NICE TO THEIR CONSTITUENTS, THAT VOTED THEM IN.”

JUDGE RON ECKHART SAID THAT THE VACANY LEFT BY JUDGE LAYH, AND THE HUNDRES OF COUNTY CASE LOADS, IT WAS IMPORTANT TO APPROVE THE APPOINTMENT OF CHRISTOPHER CLARK, TO THE COUNTY COURT AT LAW NUMBER TWO POSITION, AND BEGIN TRAINING.

(RON ECKART, ECTOR COUNTY JUDGE)

“WE REALLY FELT THE NEED TO GO AHEAD AND APPOINT CHRIS, BECAUSE HE’S GOING TO HAVE TO BE GETTING THE TRAINING ALSO FROM JUDGE BOBO AND MYSELF. IN A YEAR’S TIME HE WILL BE THE SENIOR JUDGE, ONCE JUDGE BOBO’S TERM IS EXPIRED, AND JUDGE HENDRICKS WILL BE COMING IN.”

CHRISTOPHER CLARK WILL BECOME JUDGE FOR THE COUNTY COURT AT LAW NUMBER TWO POSITION WITHIN ONE WEEK.
