ODESSA, TEXAS/OCTOBER 27, 2017 – THE PERMIAN BASIN HISPANIC MEDICAL SOCIETY AND FOUNDATION CELEBRATED IT’S 2ND ANNUAL BANQUET AT THE HISPANIC CULTURAL CENTER IN MIDLAND.

THIS YEARLY EVENT CELEBRATES PBHMS ACOMPLISHMENTS IN THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY AND, ALSO HELPING YOUND ADULTS GOING IN TO THE MEDICAL PROFESSION.

“RIGHT NOW, OUR MAJOR CONCERN IS DOING WHAT’S RIGHT AND IMPROVING THE CARE FOR THOSE IN THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY HERE IN THE PERMIAN BASIN. SO, WE ARE WILLING TO SUPPORT ANYONE, REGARDLESS OF RACE, COLOR OR RELIGION, WHO’S INTRESTED IN HELPING OR ADOVCATING FOR THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY.”

THIS NON – PROFIT ORGANIZATION WAS CREATED TO DO MORE IN BRINGING AWARNESS TO HEALTHCARE IN THE COMMUNITY DURING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH, AND HELPING NEW PHYSICANS AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS THAT ARE COMING TO THE PERMIAN BASIN COMMUNITY.

“WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO GET TOGETHER TO FORM A SOCIETY, A NON –  FOR –  PROFIT ORGANIZATION, WHERE WE COULD ACT AS A LEADERSHIP GROUP FOR LOCAL PHYSICIANS AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS, WHO ARE COMING TO THE AREA, NOT ONLY TO RECUIT THEM TO THE AREA, BUT ALSO TO HELP RETAIN THEM IN THE AREA.”

THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER OF THE EVENING, ERIKA PROSPER NIRENBERG IS THE FORMER 1ST LADY AND WIFE OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS MAYOR RON NIRENBERG. ERIKA IS THE DIRECTOR OF CUSTOMER INSIGHTS FOR H-E-B, AND GRADUATED PHI BETA KAPPA. SHE HOLDS TWO BACHELORS DEGREES AND IS A GRADUATED OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN, AND HOLDS A MASTERS DEGREE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF PENSYLVANIA ANNENBER SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION.

IN THE EVENING’S EPILOGUE, DR. VI FIVE MEDICAL STUDENTS WERE AWARDED SCHOLASHIPS TO ADVANCE THEIR CAREERS IN THE HEALTHCARE PROFESSION. THE TOTAL AMOUNT AWARDED HAD A MONITARY   VALUE OF $7,500 DOLLARS.

“AND AS PART OF OUR PROGRAM, MY COMPANY ‘WEST TEXAS MATERNAL-FETAL MEDICINE’, HAS OFFERED A CHALLENGE GRANT TO THE MEMBERSHIPS OF THE PERMIAN BASIN HISPANIC MEDICAL SOCIETY, BUT WE WELCOME ANYONE ELSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A DONATION. TO DONATE, AND WE ARE GOING TO CHALLENGE AND MATCH DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR THE DONATIONS UP TO $10,000 DOLLARS, ALTHOUGH, I SAY THAT IT MIGHT EVEN GO A LITTLE HIGHER THAN THAT. JUST SO THAT WE CAN GET MORE SCHOLARSHIP MONEY AND SCHOLARSHIPS TO THE VERY DESERVING YOUNG PEOPLE OF WEST TEXAS.”

MARICELA SAYS SHE WILL BE RETURNING HOME TO ODESSA TO COMPLETE HER THIRD AND FOURTH CLINICAL YEAR ROATATIONS AT THE TEXAS TECH HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER IN ODESSA.
