ODESSA, TEXAS/DECEMBER 17, 2017 – EARLIER SATURDAY EVENING, ODESSA FIRE RESCUE RESPONDED TO A MAJOR FIRE IN NORTHEAST ODESSA.

FIRE BROKE IN THE BACK AREA APARTMENTS NEAR 53RS STREET AND LAUREN AT THE BRADY STATION APPARTMENTS. TWO UNITS AND POSSIBLY MORE APPARTMENTS WERE AFFECTED BY THE FIRE.

THE REASON FOR THE FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION BUT ONE WITNESS AT THE SCENE HEARED THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A LIGHT ON THE CHRISTMAS TREE OR AN APPLIANCE THAT WAS LEFT ON IN THE APARTMENT.

“I WAS WORKING ON MY CAR OVER HERE. AND, I SAW SMOKE COMING OUT OF THAT APARTMENT OVER THERE. SO, I STARTED KNOCKING ON EVERY DOOR, GETTING THEM OUT. I HAD TO GIVE THIS ONE GUY MY JACKETS, ‘CAUSE IT WAS COLD OUT HERE. HE WAS OUT HERE WITH NO SHIRT, SO, YEAH. THE FIRE TRUCKS SHOWED UP, AND THEY PUT THE FIRE OUT. AND THEY SAVE A DOG. THERE WAS A DOG IN THERE.”

NO REPORTS OF INJURIES.

ON DECEMBER 10, 2017, ODESSA POLICE RESPONDED TO THE 1300 BLOCK OF AMBURGEY IN REFERENCE TO A SUBJECT REFUSING TO LEAVE. WHEN OFFICERS ARRIVED, THEY MADE CONTACT WITH JENNIFER STELLA PORTILLO 35-YEARS-OF-AGE.

THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT PORTILLO HAD A WARRANT FOR ASSAULT FAMILY VIOLENCE WITH A PRIOR CONVICTION “3RD DEGREE FELONY.”

ON OCTOBER 22, 2017, ODESSA POLICE RESPONDED TO MEDICAL CENTER HOSPITAL IN REFERENCE TO AN ASSAULT VICTIM. UPON ARRIVAL OFFICERS MADE CONTACT WITH THE 34-YEAR-OLD COMPLAINANT, WHO REPORTED THAT THE SUSPECT JENNIFER PORTILLO WAS HER EX GIRL-FRIEND.

THE INVESTIGATION ALSO REVEALED THAT AFTER BOTH SUBJECTS GOT INTO AN ARGUMENT OVER MONEY, PORTILLO BECAME ANGRY AND SLAMMED THE COMPLAINANT’S HEAD ON THE DOOR JAMB, THEN PUNCHED HER IN THE FACE. PORTILLO THEN STRUCK THE COMPLAINAN IN THE ARM WITH A WOODEN DOWL, CAUSING HER TO FALL FACE DOWN ON THE FLOOR.

OPD OBTAINED A WARRANT FOR PORTILLO, AND WAS CHARGED AND ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT FAMILY VIOLENCE.

ON DECEMBER 3, 2017, A THEFT OCCURRED A TARGET LOCATED AT 3909 EAST 42ND STREET. A MALE SUBJECT CONCEALED MERCHANDISE IN HIS JACKET AND EXITED THE STORE WITHOUT MAKING ANY ATTEMPT TO PAY. THE SUSPECT IS DESCRIBED AS A HISPANIC MALE, APPROXIMATELY 5’7 AND 150 POUNDS, WEARING A WHITE HAT, AND GRAY JACKET, WHITE SHIRT AND JEANS.

OND DECEMBER 13, 2017, OFFICERS OF THE ODESSA POLICE DEPARTMENT NARCOTICS UNIT, FBI SAFE STREETS TASK FORCE AND THE TEXAS DPS ONDUCTED AN INVESTIGATION INVOLVING A VEHICLE TRAVELLING TO THE ODESSA -MIDLAND AREA BELIEVED TO BE CARRYING A LARGE QUANTITY OF METHAMPHETAMINE AND MARIJUANA. DPS TROOPERS CONDUCTED A TRAFFIC STOP AND THE INDICATED VEHICLE ON I-20. ODESSA POLICE DEPARTMENT K-9 “DIEGO” ASSISTED IN THE INVESTIGATION AND ALERTED THAT THERE WAS NARCOTICS INSIDE. UPON THE SEARCH OF THE VEHICLE, OFFICERS RECOVERED APPROXIMATELY 5 POUNDS OF METHAMPHETAMINE AND APPROXIMATELY 12 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA. THE ESTEMATED STREET VALUE OF THE SEIZED NARCOTICS IS $300,000 DOLLARS.
