DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(050418) – ECISD CANS FOR KIDS AWARDS CEREMONY

ODESSA, TEXAS/MAY 03, 2018 – THE AWARDS CEREMONY FOR THE ANNUAL CANS FOR KIDS FOOD DRIVE WAS HELD ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 2ND AT THE ECISD SCHOOL NUTRITION OFFICE. SCHOOLS ARE INVOLVED IN THE CAMPAGIN TO COLLECT FOOD FOR THE WEST TEXAS FOOD BANK TO HELP FEED ECSID STUDENTS DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS.

AWARDS WERE PRESENTED TO STUDENTS WHO COLLECTED THE MOST NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS.

“WE HAD SOME PRIZES DONATED BY SARAH FARMS OUR MILK PEOPLE. THEY DONATED SOME TABLETS, AND THEN, WE HAD SOME OTHER PRIZES THAT WERE ANONYMOUSLY DONATED, BUT WE HAD SOME BICYCLES AND IPAD.”

“I DONATED ABOUT THIRTEEN CANS.”

‘’ I LOOKED IN MY CABINET AND I FOUND SOME CANS AND I DONATED IT.”

CERTIFICATES WERE AWARDED TO THE SCHOOLS THAT COLLECTED THE MOST FOOD DURING THE ‘CANS FOR KIDS’ FOOD DRIVE.

3RD PLACE IN ELEMENTARY WAS PEASE ELEMENTARY; 2ND WAS AUSTIN; AND REAGAN WON FIRST. WE HAD A FREE DRESS THING AT BOWIE, WHERE THEY COLLECTED CANS THEY GOT FIRST IN SECONDARY LEVEL THIS YEARS. AND NTO WON 2ND IN THE SECONDARY LEVEL.

ECISD STUDENTS RAISED OVER 34,000 POUNDS OF FOOD FOR THE WEST TEXAS FOOD BANK IN UNDER TWO WEEKS. THE FOOD BANK SEVERS 19 COUNTIES AND WORKS WITH OVER 75 PARTNER AGENCIES.

‘’ IT’S THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, WHICH IS ALWAYS THE BUSIEST TIME FOR US, WHEN THE KIDOS ARE’NT GETTING THAT BREAKFAST AND LUNCH AT SCHOOL WE DO SEE A RISE IN USE OF OUR PANTRY’S AND THROUGH OUR PARTNERS.”

A MONITARY DONATION WAS ALSO PRESENTED TO THE WEST TEXAS FOOD BANK DURING THE CANS FOR KIDS AWARDS CEREMONY.

“THERE WAS ALSO A MONITARY DONATION OF $600 AND TWENTY DOLLARS AND WITH OUR RATIO FOR EVERY DOLLAR THAT IS DONATED WE CAN PROVIDE FOUR MEALS, THAT’LL GO TO SERVE 2 THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTY MEALS TO THE COMMUNITY.”
