ECTOR COUNTY/ODESSA, TEXAS/FEBRUARY 4, 2018 – ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 1ST THE ODESSA POLICE DEPARTMENT INTRODUCED SESSION 16 OF THE ODESSA POLICE ACADEMY. THE RECRUITS WERE IN CLASSROOM STUDY, WHICH IS THE PRIMER STAGE OF THE ACADEMY.

THE ECTOR COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAD A GROUND – BREAKING CEREMONY THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 1ST TO BEGIN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE JAIL EXPANSION. THIS 60 THOUSAND SQUAR FOOT JAIL WILL HAVE 412 MAXIMUM SECURITY BEDS AND WILL HOUSE ANY CLASSIFICATION OF INMATES.

“WE’RE PAYING 8,000 THOUSAND DOLLARS A DAY OUT TO OTHER COUNTIES TOTAL. WE HAVE BETWEEN 185 TO 200 HUNDRED INMATES AT OTHER JAIL FACILITIES NOW, THOUGHOUT THE STATE. SO, WHEN WE GET THIS COMPLETED, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO BRING EVERYONE OF THOSE BACK TO OUR FACILITY.

THE NEW EXPANSION IS DESIGNED FOR “ADD-ONS” AND BASED ON POPULATION THE COMPLEX MAY NOT NEED TO BE UPGRADED UNTIL 2040.

“BASED ON A 41% GROWTH IN POPULATION IN ABOUT ONE HALF OF ONE PERCENT OF OUR POPULATION BEING INCARCERATED. THIS FACILITY REALLY SHOULD BE OK UNTIL THAT POINT.”

THERE ARE CURRENTLY OVER 400 CAMERAS IN AND AROUND THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMPLEX. AND MORE MONITORING SYSTEMS WILL BE ADDED.

“WE’VE BEEN MANDATED TO HAVE CELL CHECK CAMERAS, AUTOMATED CELL CHECK CAMERAS INSTALLED HERE IN OUR NEW FACILITY. HERE OUR NEW EXPANSION WILL HAVE THOSE CAMERAS ALSO.”

THE CONSTRUCTION WILL BEGIN WITHIN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.
