ECTOR COUNTY/ODESSA, TEXAS/JUNE 12, 2018 – DURING THE REGULAR SCHEDULED MEETING OF THE ECTOR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, ECTOR COUNTY JUDGE, RON ECKERT ANNOUNCED HIS RESIGNATION. THE RESIGNATION WAS PART OF THE AGENDA ON MONDAY’S JUNE 11TH MEETING. (RON ECKERT, FORMER ECTOR COUNTY JUDGE, ECTOR COUNTY-CITY OF ODESSA) “I’VE ENJOYED SERVING THE PEOPLE OF ECTOR COUNTY. IT’S BEEN MY GREATEST HONOR AND PRIVLEDGE. I THINK WE WERE ABLE TO ACOMPLISH QUITE A BIT FOR THE CITIZENS OF ECTOR COUNTY.” RON ECKERT WAS ELECTED ECTOR COUNTY JUDGE IN OCTOBER 2015 AND RESIGNED SIX MONTHS BEFORE HIS TERM WAS OFFICIALLY UP FOR RE-ELECTION IN DECEMBER 2018. HIS DECISION TO RESIGN WAS FOR THE SAKE OF HIS FAMILY AND FOR A NEW OPPORTUNITY AS GENERAL COUNCIL AND VICE PRESISENT OF AN OIL AND GAS SERVICE COMPANY IN MIDLAND. (RON ECKERT, FORMER ECTOR COUNTY JUDGE, ECTOR COUNTY-CITY OF ODESSA) “I HAVE TO LOOK IN TO THE BEST INTEREST MY FAMILY. THIS OPPORTUNITY PRESENTED ITSELF. NOW, I WAS OFFERED THIS JOB FIRST BACK IN DECEMBER OF LAST YEAR. AND I STAYED TO TRY TO GET SOMETHING DONE WITH THE COURTHOUSE, AND I FELT LIKE I HAD MOVED IT FAR ENOUGH DOWN THE LINE TO WHERE THERE WAS MOMENTUM TOWARD A SOLUTION.” AT 5:00PM ON JUNE 11TH, THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT WAS STANDING ROOM ONLY AS DEBI HAYS WAS SWORN IN AS THE NEW ECTOR COUNTY JUDGE BY 446TH DISTRICT JUDGE SARA KATE BILLINGSLY. (DEBI HAYS, NEW ECTOR COUNTY JUDGE) “I AM HONORED AND SPEECHLESS. THE JOY IN MY HEART THAT I FEEL, THAT THIS ROOM WAS FULL OF INDIVIDUALS THAT ARE HERE TO BEGIN THIS JOURNEY WITH ME, AND THAT THEY ARE SO MUCH A PART OF IT ALONG WITH EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN OUR ENTIRE ECTOR COUNTY, I JUST APPRECIATE EVERYBODY SO MUCH.” ECTOR COUNTY JUDGE DEBI HAYS SAYS THAT SHE’S EXITED AND READY TO GET STARTED WITH THE BUSINESS OF THE COUNTY. (DEBI HAYS, NEW ECTOR COUNTY JUDGE) “THE BUDGET IS THE FIRST THING ON MY PRIORITY, THEN WE WILL START LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN COMMUNICATE TO THE COUNTY ABOUT THE NEW TAX, SALES TAX INICIATIVE PROGRAM ROLLING THAT WILL BE ON THE BALLOT IN NOVEMBER.” “AND OF COURSE, THE COURTHOUSE. THE COURTHOUSE IS STILL AN ISSUE ON THE FOREFONT. WE’RE GOING TO LOOK AT HOW TO ADDRESS THAT ISSUE.” JUDGE DEBI HAYS BELIEVES IN AN OPEN-DOOR POLICY.
