“SO, MAKING SURE THAT WE PINPONT THAT INFORMATION AND THEY HAVE A GOOD UNDERSTANDING, OF WHICH MEDICATIONS COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS FOR THEM.”
(AMANDA EVERETT, RN – MCHS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR)
THE PRESENTATION PROVIDED INFORMATION REGARDING CHILD AND PET SAFETY AND HEAT RELATED INJURIES.
“SOME PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT HEAT EXHAUSTION IS, AND THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT THE EFFECTS THAT IT HAS ON THEIR BODY. SO, BY THE TIME THEY COME TO THE E.R. THEY’RE ALREADY IN TO A HEAT STROKE.
(AMANDA EVERETT, RN – MCHS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR)
THE EXTREME TEMPREATURES AND LACK OF PROTECTION CAN SEND SOMEONE TO THE E.R. FOR HEAT EXHAUSTION OR HEAT STROKE.
“FOR HEAT EXHAUSTION YOU WOULD LOOK FOR THINGS LIKE EXESSIVE SWEATING, MAYBE NAUSEA, HEADACHES, THAT KIND OF THING, AND WHEN IT MOVE INTO A HEAT STROKE THAT’S WHEN YOU START GETTING DRY TO THE TOUCH, YOU’RE NOT SWEATING ANYMORE, YOU MAY BECOME DIZZY OR TO THE PONT THAT YOU BLACK-OUT, THOSE ARE GOING TO BE THE SITUATIONS WHEN YOU NEED TO DIAL 9-1-1 AND GET TO AN E.R.”
IF YOU HAVE TO BE OUT IN THE SUN, THERE ARE SOME THINGS TO DO TO TAKE TO STAY SAFE FROM THE SUMMER HEAT.
(AMANDA EVERETT, RN – MCHS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR)
“YOU CAN WEAR LIGHT COLORED CLOTHING NOT ONLY IN COLOR BUT IN WEIGHT AS WELL. AND MAKING SURE THAT YOU HAVE COVERAGE FOR YOUR HEAD LIKE A HAT, DRINKING LOTS OF WATER, STAYING HYDRATED. SUNSCREEN IS OVIOUSLY A VERY BIG THING, NOT ONLY FOR SUNBURNS, BUT ALSO FOR MAKING SURE THAT IF YOU’RE TAKING ANY MEDICATIONS THAT’S A TOPICAL CREAM, THAT’S GOING TO PROTECT YOU AS WELL.”
