DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS – OFFICER RANDY CARRUTH IS OPD OFFICER OF THE MONTH FOR JULY 2017

Odessa, Texas/August 2, 2017-OFFICER RANDY CARRUTH IS OPD OFFICER OF THE MONTH FOR JULY 2017. OFFICER CARRUTH HAS BEEN EMPLOYED WITH THE ODESSA POLICE DEPARTMENT SINCE MARCH OF 2014 AND IS CURRENTLY ASSIGNED TO PATROL DIVISION “C”.

OFFICER CARRUTH WAS BORN IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA AND RAISED IN MIDLAND, TEXAS; HE SERVED AS AN INFANTRYMAN IN THE ARMY NATIONAL GURAD IN 2011.

ON JUNE 22, 2017, AT APPROXIMATELY 9:26PM OFFICER CARRUTH WAS ON PATROL TRAVELING EASTBOUND ON YUKON ROAD AND OBSERVED WHAT APPEARED TO BE A FIREBALL IN FRONT OF HIM – A MAJOR CRASH OCCURRED INVOLVING TWO VEHICLES THAT WERE ON FIRE. ONE OF THE VEHICLES, A VAN WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES.

OFFICER CARRUTH IMMEDIATELY BEGAN ASSISTING THOSE INVOLVED BY PULLING TWO SEVERELY INJURED SUBJECTS OUT OF THE DODGE CHALLENGER, AND RISKING HIS OWN LIFE BY PULLING OUT OTHERS FROM THE BURNING VEHICLE. OFFICER CARRUTH’S ACT OF HEROISM HELPED SAVE AT LEAST TWO LIVES.
